The Sound Bytes
The Sound Bytes is a contemporary acappella group consisting of four men hailing from Ahwatukee, Arizona, and one from Payson, Arizona. The thrill in life, for these five guys, is performing vocal music in close, four or five-part harmony. They perform a wide variety of contemporary styles, including Pop, Rock, Doo-Wop and Gospel. (Oh yeah a little jazz too)
The group was formed on a whim in 1994 as an act in the Intel Benefit Show, an amateur talent show consisting entirely of Intel employees, the proceeds for which have gone to charitable organizations such as the Chandler Boys and Girls Club and the Autumn House domestic violence shelter. This show was so much fun and resulted in so many referrals, that the group decided to stay together.
Since then, the group has been performing in concerts, churches, private and corporate parties, coffee houses, bars, charity events, and again in the 1995, 1996, 1997, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2003 Intel Benefit shows. They have been written up in two local newspapers, and have appeared twice on television, once as the featured act on "Good Morning Arizona at Night," a special broadcast with Jodi Applegate on KTVK Channel 3 in Phoenix. But one of their favorite musical venues is a sidewalk or street-corner, where an impromptu, upbeat number can turn a passing crowd into a captive audience.
The group is made up of, bass Mike Chilton, tenor/lead Dennis Skinner, baritone Keith Logan, baritone/lead Steve Stevens and their newest member tenor/vocal percussionist Joel Donelson. The original four have been singing together for over nine years and their newest member joined just over a year ago. Joel adds a new dimension to their sound with vocal percussion, which makes many of the songs more fun to sing and listen to. "That's what it's all about", says bari/lead Steve Stevens, " singing with guys you like to be with and singing songs that are fun. We have a lot of fun when we perform, and the audience does too."
